Supermarine Spitfire MK1A Limited Edition Print
Perhaps the most famous of all the Spitfires that are
still flying today, MH434 was built in 1943 at Vickers in Castle Bromwich and
is remarkably original, having never been subject to a re-build. Once again wearing
the authentic ZD-B markings from her WWII service in 222 Squadron, MH434 was
stood down in 1945 and then sold to the Royal Netherlands Airforce. Shipped to
the far east during the Indonesian War of Independence she saw combat a second
time in 1947 as a ground attack aircraft and light bomber, before crash landing
in Semarang, Java. Shipped back to Holland and repaired, her next career was as
an advanced trainer in Belgium, before eventually returning home to the UK
where she is currently operated by The Old Flying Machine Company and based at IWM
Duxford.
